In an April 27, 2005, press release, Secretary of State Trey Grayson announced internet availability of scanned images linked to the Lincoln County Entries database. The records include over 4700 Lincoln County Entries filed from 1779 to 1792 when Lincoln County was one-third of the Kentucky District of Virginia.
Additionally, in an innovative digitizing project, images of Land Commissioners' certificates from Library of Virginia microfilm were linked to the "Certificates of Settlement & Preemption Warrants" online Database. These original documents authorizing "corn and cabin claims", recently located in Virginia, had been considered lost and unavailable to researchers for over 200 years.
Also added to the Land Office Website: the "Kentucky County Formation Database" which includes complete text of Acts of the General Assembly creating Kentucky counties; a Gazetteer, Glossary, Quick-Reference Guides, and an Online Seminar.
Finally, the newly-designed Land Office website is greatly enhanced by the addition of maps by Neal Hammon, research by Bud Salyer, and columns written by popular Kentucky Historian & Lecturer, Ron Bryant. For the launching of the new site, Mr. Bryant wrote an article entitled "The Uniqueness of Kentucky".
